They tried something similar to that in'09, turns out it merely makes doing things far harder than it needs to be, the economy can't change to OSRS gold reflect reality quickly enough, and individuals use junk that happens to have high value to bypass it. I'll come back the moment skilling is really workable as a money maker AND not concealed behind quests that have high combat requirements. Skillers as main money makers are dead for years. Makes me pretty mad actually, I have been an osrs stan because 2015 but lately attempted rs3. It's a great deal going for this, the MTX is literally in every facet of the game sadly but it's got a lot of charm and fun to it. Looks like it's back to grindscape... If material and devs are focused on participant retention and gaining new gamers as a result of sheer quality, that is a bloody good thing. I believe Jagex understood that OSRS are the principal driver of profits with no cashcow mechanisms, but are experimenting with the RS3 playerbase. The reason why I state all this can be idt that Jagex are gunna start pouring their resources into OSRS and firing out updates every week. It is not broken at the Buy Runescape gold moment, and it's a delicate thing. The'future of Jagex' is not trying to speed up the process we're seeing for both games, it's about keeping the momentum going without breaking it. It's obviously working as is at the present time.
